Attachment: Old Guitar.jpg This is the guitar that my Dad gave me for Christmas in 1966. It will never be confused with the knock-out Brazilian Brothers guitars that Aaron Hix is crafting, but it meant as much to me. My love of guitars and music started with my Dad, and continues today because of him. He passed away 13 years ago today, and I can still hear him singing Fats Waller and Louis Armstrong songs to me. ![]() Alex |

That's great Alex. Nice to have something like that that lives on to remember him by. You gotta love Fats! |

That's cool you managed to keep that for so long, how does it play and sound? |

The five strings that are on it are likely about 15 years old, and the last time I tuned it, the sound was "woody". The original finish flaked off a long time ago, so I sanded it down, stained the back, sides and neck with walnut danish oil, and a few rustic coats of poly. I think I'll get a set of extra lights, and see what happens. Maybe I'll play a few verses of Sparkling Stella for all of the lessons Dad paid for! I still have the Lys 12 string that I bought with my first paycheck from General Motors. Some day I'll try my hand at doing a neck reset, and convert it to a bolt-on. I guess I hang on to my stuff! Nice guitar. He must have been a daring and independent sort to build guitars before the internet forums were around |

Quote: a daring and independent sort to build guitars before the internet forums were around Does that count if you just didn't know there were luthier forums around? ![]() (I was always a "don't look at the bottom half of the internet" sorta guy. A fool to myself it seems!) And, Alex, you should definitely get a song out of her every now and then! ![]() |
